Fortcryl 6028 is mainly used as a binder in the manufacture of latex paint, textured, graffito, and spackling. It is a high performance resin, enabling formulations with high resistance to wet abrasion, and high water resistance. Recently the development of polymer dispersions for the production of latex paints, textured and spellings based on synthetic resins, was directed for various reasons, to the use of binders of medium hardness. The main reason for this is the request of coatings less sensitive to dirt, with greater connecting power for pigments and fillers, and a good resistance to blockage, however, higher hardness of the binder presuppose, usually for polymers in aqueous dispersion, a higher temperature of film formation. Consequently, in order to ensure the application of products formulated based on these dispersions, of medium hardness polymers even at lower temperatures, it is necessary to use film-related auxiliaries. Thus, with this product one should use a filmogen agent suitable for each formulation, depending not only on the amount of binder of the latex paints, but also taking into account, the temperature and relative humidity of the air where it is paint will be applied.
The amount of filmogen aid employed depends on the effectiveness of the same, in the case of pigmented systems also of pigments and fillers. For latex and textured inks produced with Fortcryl 6028, it is worth the empirical rule that the addition of filmogen auxiliary should be 8.0% to 10% on resin solids in relation to total revenue. In all formulations, however, it is advisable to check the minimum film formation temperature of the finished product, in order to be able to ensure their proper behavior in the application. The most important criterion for the choice of filmogen auxiliary is its solvation power in the dispersion particles. It should also be considered its influence on resistance to wet abrasion, viscosity, application, splash and leveling. It is fully compatible with our associative thickeners. For latex paint formulations, we recommend using Fortcryl 3140 and Fortcryl 3160.
